Description
This two-hour CLE is designed to teach the basics that every civil litigator needs to know—even if they do not represent clients in the appellate courts. Attendees will learn about how to make a proper record to protect their clients’ appeal rights. The presenters will explain the difference between discretionary review and appeals, giving litigators the knowledge they need to understand when an interlocutory appeal might be appropriate and when the 30-day deadline for a typical appeal will run. Attendees will also learn about obtaining stays, which are not automatic upon filing a notice of appeal. Finally, litigators who want to know about the unique features of appellate procedure and persuasion will learn some of the basic strategies for maximizing their clients’ success in the appellate courts.
